MARKOVO SEPPALAS are the SSSD rootstock, direct descendants of the McFaul/Shearer dogs that were known everywhere as "Seppala Siberians" in the 1940s and 1950s, the Siberian Husky as it was before the showdog breeders wrecked the breed. The strong core of our kennel, these are the 4th, 5th and 6th generation inheritors of the genes of Vanka of Seppala, Ditko of Seppala, Duska of Seppala, and Shango of Seppala, true representatives of the McFaul Seppala that few of today's mushers ever knew. All of our Markovo-Seppala founders are gone now. These are their mature descendants, who in their turn are gradually yielding their pre-eminent position to the younger F2 and F3 generation stock that now incorporates the fresh genetic material of Siberia import stock. The process is a slow one and our pure-strain Markovo-Seppalas still constitute a substantial proportion of the kennel population.

Seppala Kennels has unquestionably the largest single group of pure Seppala McFaul/Shearer bloodline stock to be found anywhere in the world -- as well as being the main source of authentic, authorised Seppala Siberian Sleddogs. Some kennels talk about breeding the "Markovo Bloodline" although in reality they have no pure-strain stock at all! The Markovo-Seppalas are all in one place these days -- at Seppala Kennels and its offshoots. We advise caution if you are offered a "pure Seppala" dog these days, because to the best of our knowledge and belief, the pure Seppala McFaul/Shearer bloodline is now extinct except at Seppala Kennels and two or three others who obtained their stock from us. Most of the "Seppalas" for sale in the USA are of mixed lineage, not the pure strain; many are of doubtful pedigree. Care, knowledge and caution are necessary if one is to avoid disappointment.
