SEPPALA KENNELS' FIRST 2006 LITTER was whelped on the sixth of March by PIA OF SEPPALA (Shakal iz Solovyev x Zirconia of Sepp-Alta); their sire was KREVANKA OF SEPPALA (Xpace of Seppalta x River View's Sprite). This is a three-quarters Markovo, one-quarter Solovyev litter, that will perpetuate the sire-line of one of our male founders, XPACE OF SEPP-ALTA, while at the same time adding new genetic input from our Siberia import stud dog SHAKAL IZ SOLOVYEV. These three pups have grown at a fantastic rate. They enjoyed the summer down at Jeffrey's shack until they were three and a half months of age; Jeffrey let them out of their pen each morning for a playtime with Janis the young Chinook bitch; they would troop obediently back into the pen when given their breakfast, and remain there content for the rest of the day. They are affectionate "people-ish" puppies. At this point they look really great; definitely a future asset to Seppala Kennels.
Our sole summer litter this year was whelped on 9 June 2006. Sired by PAVEL OF SEPPALA (Shakal iz Solovyev x Zirconia of Sepp-Alta) out of LIZAVETA OF SEPPALA (Sepallop x Kolyma of Seppala), this litter is a WCAC F2 litter that integrates the Solovyev and Markovo-Seppala bloodlines after the F1 cross of the two lines. "Little Lizzy Lineout" is Jeffrey's "girlfriend" and shack companion (along with her aunt Tonya of Seppala). The litter consists of four males and three females, mostly with our now-familiar black splashed-with-white "Scotty" patterning. One female looks as though she will probably be a fawn-grey saddleback. Coming up to weaning age, they show a remarkable resemblance to their grandsire SEPALLOP when he was a puppy.
The fall 2006 breeding season commenced with a repeat breeding of last year's E-litter: the mating of half-Russian PYOTR OF SEPPALA (Shakal iz Solovyev x Zirconia of Sepp-Alta) and Markovo-Seppala ALANA OF SEPPALA (Markobosco x Kolyma of Seppala. This time Alana did much better than her first try! On the 2nd of November she easily whelped four puppies, two males and two females, and cared for them with singleminded devotion. (Photos below.)
The next litter, sired by Spanish imported 3/4-Solovyev leader COCÙ DE CAL SEGÙ (Shapochka iz Solovyev x Buffie de Cal Segù) out of 1/4 Russian DARKA OF SEPPALA (Zaki of Seppala 2nd x Lara of Seppala), followed in two days on 4 November 2006. The litter consisted of three beautiful males and a lovely little bitch who promises to be "one of those" -- an intelligent, active, challenging little character. (Photos below.)
The girls gave us almost two weeks by way of a breather, then we had the third litter of the winter on 17 November 2006, sired by 12-year-old half-Russian ZAKI OF SEPPALA 2nd (Shakal iz Solovyev x Norde of Sepp-Alta) out of young Markovo-Seppala CHENA OF SEPPALA (Surgut of Seppala 2nd x Kolyma of Seppala). Way to go, Zaki! Our dear old guy gave us two lovely males and a beautiful female, all of them a striking black and charcoal grey with black masks and little or no white facial markings. We are delighted finally to have sons from Zaki -- the D litter bitches were a triumph but we never gave up hoping for male progeny, and this year Zaki came through. Our final 2006 litter, ("Z" Litter 2006) sired by Markovo-Seppala team dog QUEEQUEG OF SEPPALA (Sepalleo x Kidron of Spirit Wind) out of Spanish imported 3/4-Solovyev female COLLEN DE CAL SEGÙ (Shapochka iz Solovyev x Buffie de Cal Segù) arrived nearly at the end of the year, on 28 December 2006. The litter consisted of a handsome dark grey male, ZHARKO OF SEPPALA, and a sleek white colour-headed bitch puppy, ZURYANKA OF SEPPALA (Photos below.) Eight-year-old COLLEN has been a model mother.
